Thai World

I have been wanting to go to Thai World for dinner for ages so I was very happy that we finallyyyy got our butts there last weekend 🙂 It was a warm  Friday evening and it was a spur of the moment decision – we didn’t have a booking but we were still lucky enough to get a table outside in the fresh air.

This very popular restaurant is located on 2nd Avenue in Harfield Village and has been around for what seems like forever. It is successfully run by husband and wife team (David & Nooch) and has a charming and authentic Thai atmosphere throughout the restaurant. We were greeted with big smiles and were made to feel very welcome when we arrived. The service is excellent, we did not need to look around for anything. Our drinks arrived shortly after we ordered them and we only seemed to wait a few minutes after we had ordered our starter, for it to arrive. We weren’t starved but we weren’t ready for mains yet so we ordered a portion of spring rolls to share and when it came time to ordering our mains, we decided on getting 2 different dishes to share and we asked if they could wait about half an hour before serving (which they did) 🙂

Their menu is great with plenty to choose from and the prices are very reasonable. Starters & Soups ranging from R32 – R48.50, Mains ranging from R64 – R104 and Desserts at R35.

Por Pia Thod (Springrolls) – R32 (Thai rolls with vegetables and noodles, served with a homemade peanut sauce).
These were really tasty, fresh, light and hot. They weren’t too stodgy or oily either (like most springrolls can be) and hit just the right spot as a little nibble while we enjoyed a sundowner drink on the deck.
There were 3 springrolls but Lop always dives in before the pic is taken 😉

Kaeng Kiew Warn Kai, Moo, Nua – R68 (Coconut milk green curry with vegetables and chicken).
The curry was massive and served with rice. It had a good bite to it but not too spicy and it was packed with chicken and fresh veggies. I think I might go for a curry that is a little bit spicier next time 🙂

Phad Thai – R70 (Rice noodle pan friend with beef and peanuts).
Yummmmmm this took is straight back to our holiday in Thailand. The portion was big and SO tasty.

They also have buffet nights on the first and last Friday of every month.
R115 per person – Four Starters, Six Mains, Rice, Noodles, Coffee & Ice Cream
The Buffet is also available any night of the week for groups of 20 or more (one week notice is required)
