Fondue Night at Eikendal Restaurant

The very beautiful Eikendal Wine Estate has brought their ever-popular Fondue Friday evenings back and I’m sure I’m not the first to say this, but… they are AWESOME!

Every Friday evening until the end of August 2013, Eikendal will be serving up delicious swiss cheese AND their to die for royal chocolate tiramisu fondues (both served with an array of dipping delights for 2). In addition to all this yumminess, they have got a number of other items on the menu – think roasted beetroot and strawberry salad, Vietnamese & Cambodian inspired curries and enticing sweet treats.

We were totally spoilt with a fondue experience for 2… so we jumped into our car straight after work last Friday and shot through to Eikendal. We were hoping to get there in time for a little sundowner but we just missed it…– how amazing would a glass of wine watching the sunset have been?

We headed to the restaurant where we were welcomed with big smiles and taken straight to our table which was beautifully laid out. The restaurant was toasty & warm with a great relaxed wintery feel to it.

Time to droooool….
First things first – time for a glass of gluhwein to get the juices flowing.

Just the right amount of love went into these guys – and an extra kick, we were told 😉

oh.my.word.divine – those sweet potato gnoccis dipped in warm, melted cheesy goodness were soooo good. I could have smashed an entire big plate of them…

And then –

Top right – Vietnamese Hang-Lay Pork curry with pineapple, chili relish @ R94 (tasty, fresh and lovely)
Bottom right – Thai style Lamb with sticky rice, pak-choi, peanuts and lime dressing @ R98 (an explosion of flavours and colours but VERY limey – you have to love lime to be able to get through the whole plate)

Last but most certainly not least – the hero of the night – Chocolate tiramisu Fondue with fresh seasonal fruits, Spanish doughnuts, sable biscuits and éclairs (Serves 2) @ R88

YUM YUM YUM – every.single.mouthful.was.heavenly! mini eclairs dipped in warm chocolate – I mean, I have no words!

Full marks to Eikendal – food, staff, atmosphere, location were super!

What an incredible foodie experience – go hungry, go guilt-free and go soon (there are only 6 more Fridays left till the end of August and they are going to book out fast)…
