Where has Bruegels been all my pizza eating life?
This pizza studio is a real Southern Suburbs hidden gem – it has been around for 10 years and I could kick myself for not visiting sooner.
We popped in last week and as soon as we walked through the doors, we were hit with the amazing smells of wood oven pizzas and colourful décor. The restaurant has a lovely family vibe-relaxed feel to it. It is perfect for a chilled week night dinner, after work drinks and pizza or a weekend catch up with friends. Each table has scrap paper and crayons ready for all to doodle and the walls are covered with colourful art work from visitors young and old.
The menu is pretty impressive with a huge selection of pizzas and set up in a way that you can easily scroll through the options without feeling overwhelmed by all the choices. The pizzas are thin based and cooked in the wood oven (just the way we LOVE them). Big, BIG brownie points go to Bruegels for the option to half and half your pizza. Show me a person who doesn’t love being able to have 2 of their favourite pizzas halved onto one pizza and I will show you a person who has never experienced pizza heaven 🙂
There are so many delicious pizzas to choose from but we decided to try these 4 pizzas (halved onto 2 pizzas)
Denis – Beef Mince, Pineapple, Bacon, Onion, Chilli (Full of flavour – a Mexican/beef mince pizza is one of my all-time favourites and the different take on this one was delicious).
Tatlin – Walnuts, Blue Cheese, Rosa Tomatoes, Rocket (This was the favourite of the night… it is unlike any pizza we have had before. Who knew Walnuts would work so well on a pizza? Outstanding, fresh and new)
Van Gough – Biltong, Feta, Pepperdew (Another must have that is not on as many menus as it should be)
Gauguin – Thai chicken, Pineapple, Peppers, Coriander (This was recommended by Lisa – her personal favourite and we can see why. It is packed with flavours that work so well together. Another first for us – coriander on a pizza – Yes, why not?)
The pizzas were super tasty. The toppings were fresh. The bases were thin (could have been a teeny bit crispier for me but I’ll just request that next time), the options were exciting and the overall evening was a pleasure.
We left feeling young, full and satisfied… already planning our next visit.
