We visited the beautiful Belfield Wine Farm during the Elgin Cool Wine and Country Festival earlier in May and thought it was just too lovely not to share. Belfield is a family owned and managed boutique wine farm in Elgin. It is situated on a hill in the Elgin Valley with the most amazing views of the vineyards and mountains. The farm is a tiny 5.5 hectares and produces only 14 000 bottles annually – all of them being red and full of flavour.
The owners, Mike and Mel are very hands on and clearly passionate about their farm, their wine and their food. They welcome visitors with open arms and offer all the warmth, smiles and chats to make you feel relaxed and “at home”. The tasting room is rustic and comfortable and opens up on to a patio overlooking the farms gardens and vineyard.
We enjoyed lunch at Belfield during the Elgin Wine Festival and Mel went all out with the most delicious spread of fresh gourmet salads, chicken and veggies to feast on. We sipped on red wine and had our lunch outside under one of the shady trees and then moved over to the blankets set up on the grass for our dessert – A warm pear crumble with ice cream. The farm is wonderfully peaceful and quite. You can just sit and look out over the land for hours and hours and never get tired of any of it.
Belfield, you’re a real gem.
