3 Tons of Fun @ Cafe Manhattan :)

The lop and I were totally spoilt last Sunday when we were treated to dinner and a show :)

Dinner was at the ultra vibey Cafe Manhattan in the heart of Greenpoint and the entertainment for the night was none other than the super cool chicks of 3 TONS OF FUN!  If you don’t know who these girls are then you have been living under a rock. We first saw them in action at Madame Zingara (quite a few years ago) and they were the highlight of the show. Soooo when we heard that they were performing at Café Manhattan, we just had to see them again :)

Our table was booked for 7:30pm which gave us plenty of time to enjoy a delicious dinner before the show (which started at 9pm).

We decided on the starter Nachos to share (R47) – I am obsessed with Nachos so it’s hard to wow me… but these were good. They were big, covered in cheese and came with all the right trimmings – Salsa, Guacamole and Sour Cream… So many places leave the sour cream out BUT it is a crucial element to a smashing bowl of Nachos. We were pretty full after these guys so decided to take a little breather before ordering our mains.

The supporting act came on stage at about 8pm (we didn’t get his name) – he was a dude with a guitar, a voice and a vibe – just the kinda guy to get the mood going before the girls were ready to start. By the time we were ready to order our mains, the restaurant was full up with everyone eating, drinking and being merry :)

I ordered the Banele’s New York Strip (R126)– 250g prime rump steak topped with garlic pepper sauce – to die for – and served with chips and veg. YUMMMMMMMM yum yum! The steak was juicy and tender and the sauce combination was perfect.

Lop ordered the Surf & Turf (R135) – crumbed calamari & 250g Sirloin Steak served with chips, veg and tartar sauce. Our waiter brought Mrs Balls Chutney to our table which was a big plus for Lop… you don’t often get Chutney at restaurants (especially without requesting it first), anyhoooo… Lop reckons the two go together like, well like… steak and chutney ;)

And THEN it was time for 3 TONS OF FUN. These girls are such rockstars. They sing beautifully and their stage presence is amay-may! The restaurant was heaving, everyone from the bar area had found a spot to sit, stand, dance, whoop whoop for the entire time that these girls entertained us.

WHO ARE WE? 3 TONS OF FUN
AND WHAT DO WE DO? YOU ROCK BABY, YOU ROCK!!

Fine Brandy Fusion :)

IMG_1415
The Fine Brandy Fusion hit Cape Town for the very first time last week and was an absolute smasher of a festival :)

We went for the opening night (Thursday) and there was so much to see and do.

There was a little something for everyone to experience… whether it was to join in on one of the Brandy master classes or to watch one of the barrel making demonstrations or even just stroll around smelling, tasting and enjoying all the different brandies.

Proverb was MC for the night and entertainment included burlesque dancers and funnyman magician GINJA NINJA.

We decided to use our vouchers on the urban cocktail route :) Who knew brandy cocktails  looked and tasted soooo good? collage1
We kept on ordering the same colour drinks… strange. Pink ones for me and beer coloured ones for Lop ;) One of the favourites of the night was from the Sky’s no limit party bar where Eagle air brandy was mixing up their yummy cocktails…I don’t know exactly what was in it but there were brandy and apple flavours of goodness.

Collisons White Gold Brandy and Cosmopolitan were also there and they were giving 20 minute canape and cocktail lessons with the winner of the Collison’s Cosmo Cocktail competition (Johnny) showing us how to make his signature apple crumble cocktail and chef showing us how to pair brandy cocktails, brandies and canapes together :) It was a really great experience.
collage2Massive thanks to Anita and the team at Errieda Du Toit PR for inviting us. We had such a fab time with the brandy and the cocktails and the snacks :) Can’t wait for next year!
